Selecting the translators
The translator is selected on account of his expertise and his formal and personal requirements.
Our translators must have the following expertise:
- Translation expertise:
This is based on the ability to render the source text into the target language with regard to the content, level of language, intention and style with an adequate degree of effectiveness and in accordance with the agreements, rules and requirements.
- Linguistic and textual expertise:
These are based on the command of the source and target language and require knowledge and an overall view of conventions on the kind of text for general language texts and technical texts as well as the expertise to put these into practice.
- Research expertise:
This consists of effectively researching the additional linguistic and technical knowledge required for understanding the source text and for the preparation of the translation.
- Cultural expertise:
Cultural expertise embraces the knowledge of the information about the locality, about behaviour patterns and systems of values characteristic for the source and the target culture and the ability to use this knowledge.
- Professional expertise:
Professional expertise encompasses the abilities and skills which a translator requires to professionally prepare and produce translations. It embraces the handling of technical resources.
At least one of the following requirements should be fulfilled:
A formal advanced translation training programme (recognised higher-education diploma);
A comparable training programme in another specialist field with at least two years´ documented translation experience;
State-approved diploma in translation examination held by the IHK (Chamber of Industry and Commerce);
Sworn in as an interpreter by the local competent regional court;
Authorisation by the local competent higher regional court, exceptionally many years of successful work as an interpreter or translator.
These consist on the one hand of the personal suitability of the translator such as the ability as a translator, experience as a specialist translator and on the other hand in the translator's technical possibilities (handling modern media such as a PC, the Internet, fax machine), requested prices, free capacity, etc.
