The formation of the predecessor of Interlingua goes back as far as the year 1976, to a time when there were as yet hardly any translation agencies in Dortmund with wide ranging capabilities and when translation services were mainly offered as a sideline by the language schools.
Although the recession had announced itself in 1974 with the oil crisis, a vigorous economic environment already existed. INTERLINGUA was able to develop quickly on this economic basis; the company succeeded in attracting a whole host of experienced specialist translators and approaching a wide target group.
The steel and construction companies from Dortmund were among its first customers. In due course, small and large companies from all over Germany followed suit.
Today Interlingua is an internationally operating translation service provider offering translations into and from all languages and in all specialist areas, which has qualified employees both in Germany and abroad.
Quality has been the guideline of Interlingua right from the start. As early as 1980 Interlingua had its own extensive software program for order processing, accounting and statistics. Initially programmed in CPM, subsequently converted to Turbo Pascal and finally to Windows, the program made it possible to document and retrace each individual text from the start through to completion.
In following this guideline, Interlingua was one of the first translation agencies in Germany to set up an appropriate system after the introduction of the ISO 9000ff series of standards. As early as 1997 Interlingua introduced a developing quality management system in accordance with ISO 9001:1994 and had itself certified by MPA NRW (materials testing office for North Rhine-Westphalia). With the certification, Interlingua undertook to comply with a quality policy that includes the development, maintenance and continual improvement of an effective and efficient quality management system. The quality management system was revised in accordance with the updated version of ISO 9001:2000 and conforms to the state of the art with DIN EN ISO 9001:2015.
When the quality management system was developed DIN 2345 Translation contracts was implemented, as well as DIN 15038 and finally DIN EN ISO 17100 Translation services – Requirements for translation services.
